Chapter 17 and 18

It is interesting that in Revelation 17 and 18 we have separated the great Harlot chapter 17 ( Could be dealing with relationship people have) and Babylon in chapter 18 (Could be dealing with Commerce, Business, Goods) when they are the same, because the Harlot is Babylon. That means there is a message for mankind for you or me concerning the Harlot, so one of the angles who had the seven bowls said I will show you the judgement of the Harlot who is seated on many waters. Seeing the Harlot is seated on many waters it means the Harlot is all over the earth, all nations. And the kings of the earth commit fornication with her and  they are so immersed with her that they are drunk. The description of the Harlot indicated that kings and nations were seduced by her because her clothes and ornaments offering pleasure when in fact what she offered is impure fornications. The Harlot is not a women but it is the spirit, the things that mankind was doing which involves all what God calls impure passions whether it be sexual, pleasures in other ways. And men were drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of martyrs of Jesus.

John was amazed by what he saw. I would think he was amazed by the woman's attraction, something about the woman that mankind is drawn towards her. John probably felt the same attraction. The Nations and mankind were trapped by her trappings and participated whereas John was a spectator to the spectacle at the invite by God himself, because God wanted mankind to be warned, and God wanted his plan of the future to be revealed to all mankind, so that any person who wants to come and escape the doom of mankind can. The doom is for  those who reject God's great salvation. Think about it, mankind's earth, the solid earth is going to disappear as we discussed previously.

Now the angel said to John not to marvel  at what he was going to unfold, reveal the mystery of the Harlot who is also Babylon. There are in the beast seven heads and ten horns. The beast you saw was and is not and is to ascend from the bottomless pit and go to perdition and the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will marvel to behold the beast, because it was and is not and is to come.
I will quote again what I said earlier that I agree with many commentators who believe the seven heads are Egypt, Assyria, Babylon , Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome and the seventh I believe deals with this Church era where no one is a complete kingdom of the earth, like we know, from Rome to now (In Rome's time, Rome was  civilization,) there is no nation can be called as universal. The United States of America is the most powerful on the earth as I pen these words 2009 yet it shares other nations which are powerful.

Remind yourself, America lost the Vietnam war. In 1975  there was the largest helicopter evacuation in history and there were no US troops in 1979. (58000 US soldiers died approx) The conflict went from 1959 to 1975 approx. Even now, 2009 America knows it does not control the nations of the world. America is powerful, but we know America is not civilization as was considered in Rome. Rome's civilization lasted almost a thousand years. And about 500 AD Rome was on the way out as they were invaded by other nations. No one can claim to be as powerful as Rome was at that time.

 So we know the five heads, civilizations we know the sixth is Rome. We know it is Rome because when Revelation was written, or the visions, Rome civilization existed. And from the end of Rome all nations are fragmented without and nation up to day can claim to be a universal civilization, so the seventh is to come. And the seventh could come out in the future as discussed in chapter 13 . In our chapter 17 10-11 They are seven civilizations or we can say seven kings five have fallen, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon , Medo-Persia, Greece, as we know and one is, is Rome as we know, and the other is to come in the future. The other has not come,  yet because we see dozens of nations, kings at the moment no one can be called as one to come and interesting an eighth is to come, but the eight belongs with the seven. That is interesting because in chapter 13 we are looking at ten horns which can be probably identified in the future as ten nations, kings. Still to be indentified. Interesting, as we look at chapter 17 it could be that the seventh to come and the eight to come could be the another beast with its two horns, (nations, kings) , as we discussed in Chapter 13 : 11-19. and we could have found the six hundred and sixty-six.. But note the seventh only lasts a while, so  the eighth have a short reign.
Let us now consider the ten horns.

Once again I will quote what I said earlier. The ten horns need more study as some commentators are talking about Rome as being the time and the ten horns. But we will go back Look ar Revelation 17 :12.  I could be right, there is a possibility that the ten horns that are those listed in Revelation 17: 12 who give their power and authority to the beast. is the same as chapter 12 we are discussed. These 10 horns with their power give their power to the beast, and could be in our Church era, so somewhere in our time or in the future there can be ten nations that are dominated enough to be in a position to be given power to the beast. We know at present that the 10 horns do not have power yet, because this royal power (ten nations) is to come from the beast, but the beast has not yet given this power to the ten kings, nations. But we do know that as we saw in chapter 12 : 1-10 the ten kings do have power and cause a lot of persecutions against the Christians, their reign is for one hour, but that just means a short period of time and during this time the seventh and the eight comes and tricks the ten nations, kings, the seventh and eighth kills even the Christians. As we see in chapter 17 : 13-14 the entire ten nations, the seventh and eighth nation as one mind give their authority to the beast and together they set out to fight against Lamb and the Lamb will conquer them because the Lamb will conquer because he is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings, and those who were with the Lamb were those who were chosen and faithful.1

Now the miracle happens because the ten nations turn on the Harlot. That means they have realized they have been tricked and the Harlot, that is the passions, and impure passions is a mistake so they hate these things. What an amazing picture to see the nations suddenly turning on the spirit of the age by realizing they were chasing shadows, a nothing, vanity, so they turn on her finally. Why did that happen? Gods purpose which is be be fulfilled because the nations gave their alliance to Satan and they were now imploding as they realized they were deluded, tricked.2 Off course God's plan plan will, would succeed and does because in chapter 18 through to 22 we see God's plan finished in the new heaven, the new earth and Jerusalem.

Clearly chapter 18 which talks about Babylon has fallen has unpacked verses 15-18 in chapter 17, that the ten nations and the beast will turn on the Harlot and burn her up with fire. In turning on the beast you need to remember that beast has horns, heads, diadems which represents the beast. So that means what the beast represents the nations, kings civilizations, crown turn on the Harlot and now we see what we mean what is meant by devouring, burn up, fire of the Harlot.

So John saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority and the earth was made bright with his splendor. I assume the angel was bright with splendor because he represents that which is good as the worlds works fall over. With a great voice he said,

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!

It has become a dwelling place of demons,

a haunt of every foul spirit,

a haunt of every foul and hateful bird;

for all the nations have drunk the wine of her impure passions,

and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her

the merchants of the earth have grown rich with the wealth of her wantonness”3

Here what we have just read fits our own nations today as I write these words. Don't you reckon, exactly as these words above, the nations today are full of impure passions, not necessarily sexual, but all other actions the world does, financial, such as the credit crisis, fraud loans for homes that almost destroyed the worlds financial system.  Business who operate for themselves, selling products that are not for the well being of society. Business who destroys the hopes of millions of people under the pretence for the sake of the Business, they must make you redundant, so they say. Government agendas how they run their nations not according to the universal laws God has put in place. This important is so important I will list them,

“You shall have no gods before me.

You shall not make a graven image like..., in heaven..., on earth..., in earth, water..., nor will you bow before them.

You shall not takes the name of the Lord your God in vain.

Remember the Sabbath day,

Honour your father and mother,

You shall not kill.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false testimony.

You shall not covet your neighbour house, wife etc.

These ten universal laws should be enshrined in the fabric of all nations, taught by Governments so that the individual persons accept it as part of Society and becomes the norm, which means persons can be brought into line if they deliberately tread on the laws God wants in Society

But notice that as we think about our own Society, that is today, yesterday and tomorrow a voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people lest you take part of her sins...” So many texts do tell us not to stain your garments, It has been a serious problem for all humanity because even in Jude 1 : 23 where we are to help other people, while we do the good deed with the attitude “...even hating even the garment spotted by the flesh...” That is for us who are Christians, imagine the serious problems people have when they deliberately immerse themselves in the worldly world and join the passions, usually impure passions according to God's requirement. The call then to all people to come out of Babylon even though here in Revelation 18 : 4 the voice has, is and will be telling his people, God's people to get out of Babylon.4

So now we are at Babylon and it has fallen because it disregards what God has always required, so the day of reckoning has come. All the nations, peoples, merchants, all others thought there was to be no end to their wants, their wants were anything they wanted. Disregarding what God wanted, as chapter 18 : 7, “She glorified her heart here I site, things will never be gone, but unfortunately for Babylon her day the plagues will come in a single day, pestilence, mourning, famine and she will be burned by fire, for the Lord Judge is judging her.

The kings of the earth will weep and wail.

The merchants of the earth will weep and wail.

No one buys their cargo any more.

All their wants are gone, never to be found again. There is to be no rebound, things are going to be disastrous as we found out in chapter 16 : 17-21. Disaster is not good enough to describe what is happening because it is the Day of Judgement has arrived and mankind's world was about to disappear. So bad are things to be they will stand at a distance in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud.

All ship masters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, they stood at the distance as well cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,

They wept and mourned, crying out as they see  everything disappeared .

It is interesting that God has given us a clear illustration of what is going to happen. It is a prophecy and it will happen. The only time it will not happen is if mankind repents before God. Even though many people say, well, this is the end, God will not change his plan, so people take the negative approach, yet God has the positive approach, if people do the wrong thing and repent and do what God requires, the evil that he said will happen will not happen. I think this is such an important point that I will quote the words from God in Jeremiah 18 : 7-8, “If at any time I declare concerning a nation or kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil , I will repent of the evil I was going to do it.”

That means that all Christians should plead God to turn peoples hearts to God and we should never cease pleading with people to repent, turn to Jesus and have their sins forgiven. The improbable can happen. The Holy Spirit like a huge ocean can sweep into mankind causing a revival as the world turns to God. What a thought! At present we see a great prophecy of mankind decimated as their world falls apart, because they are disobeying God.. Currently all nations are deceived by the sorcery of Babylon, Harlot, and in her is the blood of prophets and of saints and all who have been slain on earth. Finally God's judgement has come and we will see a completion of all things God promised in chapter 20.

We will see in chapter 19 : 1-2 a great voice in heaven cries out, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belongs to our God for his judgements are true and just, he has judged the great Harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornications, and has avenged on her blood of his servants.”5 Think about the statement here in these two verses above. God has judged, which means his judgement has ended and you can assume that the events in chapter 20 has happened as well when the son of man has been sitting on his throne judges the nations the books have been opened..

1 Chapter 12 and 17 put together give us a picture of what is going to happen in the future.

2 Christians for thousands of years has been telling mankind that the only reality is really to obey God all the rest is vanity and will pass away.

4 It is so clear that many people, groups and Denominations have joined Babylon. The most obvious is the paradigm that now the most important we can do is help the poor people or underprivileged in Society, yet these people are part of Babylon, you will also have the poor, you will always have the underprivileged. Then we have the problem with sexuality in the churches. Yet the most important mission of the church is to bring people to Jesus Christ, so that people come to repent to be part of God's Kingdom. That is number one mission from this then we move to help those in Society. Yet I think people have the cart before the horse.

5 I think the Harlot concentrates on relationships people and Harlot whereas Babylon concentrates on financial, commerce, put together Harlot and Babylon you have the complete picture.

Chapter 17 & 18

Bible Revelation Chapter 17 & 18 combined because the Harlot being judged is the same as Babylon who has fallen. Harlot is about men's relationship with the Harlot where as Babylon is Commerce, material world collapses, falls over.
