Bible Revelation  Chapter 8

In chapter 8 we see the son of man opening the seventh seal and there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Any discerning person would realise that something pretty dramatic was about to happen, so every body in heaven is holding their breath.

I want to highlight this pause in heaven. Imagine, the son of man opens the seventh seal and then a breathtaking pause, no noise no movement, sheer silence for about half an hour. We can ask, What is this pause about? Well, finally it was going to happen. What is going to happen? Well, people have been saying, “...where is the promise of his coming...all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation...”1 People forget this appearance of slowness on God's part he was being graceful, merciful giving people time to listen to him and repent.2 Finally all the patience and waiting was about to end. So the pause is indicative that all people in heaven know, this is the time that God had warned mankind about. Sin was going to be abolished, the wicked people were to be judged. God's peoples were going to see the promises to them happen. The son of man was going to reign and history we know will be gone. We will be living in the new heaven and new earth anything that pollutes will be gone. A new time. No wonder there was a pause. Think about it, put yourself in heaven and see the son of man sitting there removing the seventh seal, and then people in heaven stop breathing in anticipation what is happening next.

We can now picture the scene, the seventh seal has been opened, there was a pause, then we see seven angels with trumpets, then an angel stood at the altar with a lot of incense that mingle with the prayer of the saints, then the angel took a censor filled with fire that came from the altar and threw it on the earth and there were peals of thunder, voices, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

Again I want to set the scene. The seventh seal opened, a pause, seven angels with trumpets and incense mingling with the prayers of the saints, then an angel takes fire from the alter and throws the fire on the earth, then thunder, lightning and an earthquake. Two things are happening. In heaven you have angels with trumpets and the prayer of the saints. Imagine the dramatic scene in heaven and no doubt the praying saints are praising God and the son of man for being a lamb slain for them so that they could be a son of God. Judgement is about to happen.  As the angels blow their trumpets the earth we know, knew, is to experience chaos .

Let us now think about the sequence of the next six angels that are to blow their trumpets. The trumpets sequence can be one after another, or it can be happening all at once, or a space from each trumpet blown. So the sequence of how or when the trumpets blowing is speculative. There is a possibility that the seventh seal, the seventh trumpet and the seventh bowl represents completeness, that is God's judgement is measured out and finalized because the last plague is poured into the air “...there were flashings of lightning thunder... a voice from the temple said, “It is done” as stated in Revelation 16: 17-18.  “The flashes of lightning, thunder is the same even as the seventh seal was opened and events there, lead me to believe we are dealing with the Great Judgement Day.

If what I am saying is correct then the trumpets represents actual events where the earth is affected by natural catastrophe. After all we are told “...the day of the lord will come like a thief, then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.”3 And we know that people will try to hide from the son of man sitting on the throne on the Judgement Day.4

One of the greatest problems that exist currently in Denominations and Theologians is they are trying to keep intact the earth. Such as a Rapture, seven years of tribulation, Jesus coming to Jerusalem reigning for thousand years, a Judgement Day. Some say the earth will remain. I believe that Peter has shown the earth will be destroyed by fire and note here in Revelation the sixth seal “...the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up...”5 also Denominations and Theologians are preserving the idea that there will be a great revival in Israel itself. Yet Jesus said to the Jews, “..Your house is forsaken...” 6 Jesus also said to the Jewish leaders, “Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.”7 To try and keep in place for a renovated old earth and a special place for physical Israel destroys the message of Revelation. Revelation is for you and me to encourage us. Ninety percent of Revelation is relevant to us today, that is the era from Jesus Christ time to the second coming of Jesus Christ.. Not in some future era such as Rapture and later.8 I am dealing with the second coming of Jesus Christ and the Great Judgement Day. Revelation has a dramatic picture of the Judgement day.

Somewhere we need to allow the earth to be injured, catastrophe events by apparent nature. Though here this injury of the earth is at a time when the great Judgement Day is happening and the earth is being decimated, so that men are terrified so they try to hide from God. But it is to late, as we will see in a few chapters the joy and peace on the earth is never to be returned.

Let us now look at the first four angels and what happens when their trumpets are blown. The first angel blew his trumpet 9 there was hail, fire, mixed with blood, which fell on the earth, third of the earth was burnt up and a third of the trees and all grass burnt up. Here we see a catastrophe has happened. This hail, fire, blood can be a nature event caused something happened.10 ,It has affected trees, grass etc. I believe that is a possibility that human agencies could have caused the problem, the first trumpet.

You can run your mind and think about people who are busy trying to get hold of nuclear power capacity. People who believe only themselves has the right to exist and the rest have to either convert to their way of living or to be exterminated. We have to remember knowledge is ever increasing today and even though there are nations who place a human person important such as nations in the West, but also other nations the same as the West, there are groups who are also getting hold of knowledge to produce weapons or finding other ways to injure Society. So, I am saying there is a possibility that human agencies could have found a way to destroy our earth.

A key statement to support my thesis is that Jesus said, “...And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened....” Matthew 24: 21-22.

So the earth has started to be decimated affecting the trees, grass and then the second angel blew his trumpet , “...and something like a great mountain burning with fire, was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died and a third of the ships were destroyed...?11 Once again it could be natural event by nature, or by human agencies, because you notice it states what fell into the sea was like a great mountain, so we know it was not the mountain because it says 'like' so you can picture what is happening and let your mind think about the possibilities, nature, or human activity. We do know that human beings are capable of destroying themselves.12 So we could be seeing through some human agency our earth is being destroyed.

Now the third angel blew his trumpet, “...a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers, and on the fountains of water. The name of star is wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died of the water because it was made bitter...”

The third trumpet and the fourth trumpet is fertile ground for symbolism because the fountains of water can be applied to living water and maybe polluted religious and other reasons, and things like sun, moon, stars can be applied to earthly powers etc. Many people have already applied symbolism to the trumpets.

The trumpets cover natural things such as, earth, trees, grass, ocean, creatures, ships, and now we can add, rivers, springs, and the next trumpet. covers, sun. moon. Stars. The fifth, sixth, seventh moves away from what trumpet one to four cover.

If we keep thinking about natural events some how human agencies has polluted water on the land and many people died. Perhaps a natural event affecting the water people used for such things as drinking, crops etc.

Then the fourth angle blew his trumpet “...third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light was darkened; a third of the day was kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.”13 As I have said before, this fourth trumpet is also rich soil for symbolism, but I am close to saying this forth trumpet is talking about a natural event happening. It can be literally something has happened in the heavens that has upset the natural physical laws or huge events that injure these celestial bodies. I cannot imagine any human agency could cause this event in the heavens. We need to remember this is happening in the seventh seal which I believe is dealing with the coming of the son of man and the Great Judgement Day. So all the events can be one hundred percent events cause by God through natural events, or it could be a mixture of Human agency and natural events. It does not matter which view you have we can say the earth has been decimated, injured, but not destroyed completely because we are told a third of the events has effected the earth. 14

Clearly I am saying that I believe the seven trumpets fits in the seventh seal and the seventh seal is a Judgement day and for that reason it can be true that with the first four trumpets we are dealing with God's judgement on Judgement day and the earth is being destroyed by natural events or destroyed by human agencies because men are capable of destroying the planet.

But now something new is happening, John looked and heard and eagle cry with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets, which the three angels are about to blow.”15 Many translation have angle instead of eagle.16 Because Woe is used three times we can expect a heightened drama or catastrophe.

Let us now move in anticipation to chapter 9

8 The Rapture could be a Theologian construction. I think that is the case.

9 I have deliberately said it blows the trumpet to not think about the sex's such as he, her, or else.

10 I read in my reading that some people say asteroids, comets crash onto the earth. Could be or could be not.

11Revelation 8 :8-9

12 For example the Romans Army sieged the town, the temple was erased every brick pulled down and Jews were dispersed away.. It is believed Jerusalem fell to the Romans mainly because they were fighting amongst themselves.

13 Revelation 9 :12

14 Other comments on the fourth trumpet. These comments do not fit in with my thesis.

15 Revelation 8 : 13.
